- Leave your purse at home. Consider keeping just your ID and two credit cards in your front pocket.
- Never leave valuables in plain sight in your vehicle. Thieves won't hesitate to quickly smash your window and take your belongings.
- Use your car alarm if you have one. Consider purchasing one if you don't.
- Stay alert to your surroundings.
- Write "Check ID" on the signature line on the back of your credit cards. Remind the cashier if he or she fails to ask for it. It may prevent the next person from being a victim.
- Keep a record of all of your credit card numbers in a safe place at home.
- Notify the credit card issuer immediately if your credit card is lost or stolen.
- Avoid carrying large amounts of cash.
- Avoid wearing expensive jewelry.
- Keep your cell phone password protected.
- Use your cell phone to take a picture of those shopping with you (children, elderly family members, etc.). If for some reason you get separated or someone becomes lost, it will help the police or security officers in locating your loved one.
